At HERVÉ by Céline Marie, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s woven into everything we do. From the moment we launched, we made a promise: long-term sustainability over short-term convenience. As part of that commitment, we’ve taken real action to reduce our impact, offset our carbon footprint, and give back to the planet.
Can fashion be truly sustainable? The honest answer is — only if we all decided to go nude! While that might be the most eco-friendly option, it's not exactly practical. The reality is that every piece of clothing has an impact, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do better. At HERVÉ, we believe sustainability isn’t about perfection — it’s about making conscious choices that reduce harm and give back to the planet. From offsetting our carbon footprint to planting trees and protecting rainforests, we're on a mission to prove that fashion and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Why Offset Our Carbon Footprint?
Fashion, especially fast fashion, is one of the biggest polluters in the world. It’s responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions — more than all international flights and shipping combined. That’s a staggering statistic, and it’s a call to action. If we want to change the industry, we have to start by taking responsibility for our own environmental impact. An average person in the EU produces around seven tons of CO₂ per year. To absorb that amount of carbon, anywhere from 112 to 224 trees (depending on the type) need to be planted. Now, imagine the impact of an entire fashion brand. That’s why we set out to become a carbon-neutral business — and then go beyond that to become climate positive.
Planting Trees: Our Path to Carbon Neutrality
Becoming carbon neutral means ensuring that the CO₂ we produce is balanced by actively removing the same amount from the atmosphere. To do this, we took a deep dive into our entire carbon footprint — from production and materials to shipping, photoshoots, and even staff-related emissions. Every detail counted.
To offset these emissions, we planted our first trees in October 2021 and have continued to expand our efforts. As of now, we’ve planted over 600 trees and protected 100m² of rainforest. These trees are making a difference in global reforestation efforts, including projects like the Greening Schools Project in Kenya, the Embangweni Indigenous Reforestation Project, Trees Where Needed the Most in partnership with One Tree Planted and the protection of 100m² of Peruvian rainforest through Wilderness International.

Beyond Neutral: Becoming Climate Positive, One Tree at a Time
Being carbon neutral is an important milestone, but we didn’t stop there. Instead of simply offsetting what we produce, we decided to do more. By planting more trees than necessary, we’re actively contributing to a healthier planet—moving from neutral to climate positive. Since 2022, HERVÉ has been carbon negative, meaning we absorb more CO₂ than we emit.
Sustainability isn’t just about what brands do—it’s about all of us making mindful choices. Whether it's supporting ethical fashion, reducing waste, or planting a tree, every action adds up. Together, we can make a real impact—one tree at a time.
